 Berkeley Heights, located in Union County, has a population of 13,200. It was ranked 45th. out of a potential 2,800 places in the United States with populations above 7,500 and under 50,000 in Money magazine's 2007 Best Places to Live rankings! Union County ranks 74th in the United States by personal per-capita income.
Although Union County is located less than an hour's drive west of Manhattan, the residents experience a suburban lifestyle. The township has many municipal parks with tennis courts, baseball fields, basketball courts, and swimming facilities. Union County is home to Passaic Valley Park and The Watchung Reservation, which has hiking trails, horseback riding trails, a large lake (Lake Surprise) and picnic areas.

One hour drive to NYC and 15 minutes to the beach.
 Middletown is located south of NYC and is the largest town (pop. 62,500) in Monmouth County, which is considered a part of the New York metropolitan area. In 2006, 2008, and 2010, Middletown was voted in the Top 100 in CNN Money's Best Places to Live and Monmouth County ranks 42nd among the highest-income counties in the United States.
The town features a collection of distinctive neighborhoods and includes a vast number of parks for outdoor activities. Along with adjacent Ocean County, Monmouth County is a mecca for boating and fishing enthusiasts. Its waterways include several rivers and bays that flow into New York Harbor, Jamaica Bay and the Atlantic Ocean.
Travel by car to Manhattan takes about an hour and New Jersey Transit's North Jersey Coast Line, which runs from New York City's Pennsylvania Station, provides service at the Middletown rail station.
