The new Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts located in downtown KC is under contstruction. The center will include a 1,600-seat concert hall and a 1,800-seat proscenium theatre, and will be the performance home for the Kansas City Symphony, the Lyric Opera of Kansas City, and the Kansas City Ballet. The Kauffman Center will also feature a diverse range of performances in both halls including dance and music of all types from pop to rock, light classical to country, jazz groups to bands, and gospel to folk music, as well as smaller Broadway and off-Broadway touring productions. |
Sports
The Truman Sports Complex offers residents and visitors the best in major league sports - The Kauffman Stadium is home to the Kanas City Royals, of the American League. The stadium recently underwent a $250 million renovation, which began after the 2007 season and was completed in July 2009. Arrowhead Stadium has been the Kansas City Chiefs' home field since 1972 and the fourth largest stadium in the NFL. The stadium is currently undergoing a $325 million renovation.

The Kansas City Wizards is an Major League Soccer club with plans to build a new stadium there near the Kansas Speedway. The Wizards have won several major titles.

Shopping and Dining
Village West is a $573 million, 400-acre retail, dining and entertainment development that opened in 2002. Village West is the most popular tourist destination in the state, and has significantly fueled growth in KCK and Wyandotte County.
